Can you identify different types of glacial deposits? What do weathering zones look like?
This full-color poster is an amazing teaching tool. It presents 13 original photographs of sediments from the major glacial depositional environments.
Subglacial and resedimented diamicton are depicted in six photos with various secondary weathering zone features. Undisturbed core samples of glaciofluvial sediments are presented including one photo of a channel fill cross section in a vertical exposure. Various glaciolacustrine sediments show various sedimentary structure including massive, thinly-bedded, to laminated beds from planer to undulatory.
Photos include both vertical exposures and subsurface core samples from Sonic, SPT, and continuous samplers. The poster legend includes detailed description of each image and is an excellent classroom tool.
Measures 12" x 18" and is laminated for both office and field use.
Here's what other's say about it:
"We use the glacial sediments chart as part of our in-house training for boring log descriptions. After the training session is complete, we distribute a chart to each person and ask them to describe what they see and interpret the deposits." - Senior Consultant
